How to Decode Emotional Signals and Respond Effectively

Live on Zoom – May 21st from 2-3:30pm EST

In the workplace, we often find ourselves on the receiving end of strong emotional reactions—from frustration in a meeting to silence in an email thread. It can be confusing, uncomfortable, and tempting to either withdraw or react defensively. But what if these moments held the key to deeper understanding, stronger collaboration, and better leadership?

This session offers a practical, compassionate approach to interpreting and responding to emotional reactions from others. Grounded in the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), we’ll explore how emotions—even the intense ones—are signals that point to core human needs. When we learn how to “decode” those signals, we can shift from reacting to connecting, even in high-stakes situations.

This training is ideal for managers, team leads, HR professionals, and anyone who wants to feel more confident and equipped when others’ emotions run high. Walk away with simple, powerful tools to create more understanding, connection, and resilience in all workplace relationships.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize emotional cues as expressions of unmet needs rather than personal attacks
  • Respond with empathy and clarity—even when others are upset or shut down
  • Stay grounded and curious in emotionally charged conversations
  • De-escalate tension while maintaining accountability and forward momentum
  • Build psychological safety and trust through small, skillful responses
