Are your kids prepared for camp this summer?

Since becoming an OCA Preferred Vendor in January, we’ve spoken with a lot of camp directors who have shared their concerns for the upcoming season, and their experiences with limited capacity last summer.

What we’ve heard over and over again is how surprised many camps were at the high prevalence of mental health concerns – especially anxiety – their campers were dealing with.

At The Expert Talk we know that camp should be some of the best times of their lives.  The problem is a lot of kids haven’t been away from home in two years – they’ve gotten used to being around their family or in small cohorts at school.  And this has you worried about how they’ll fare away from home, and how they’ll make new friends.

We share your belief that summer camp should be one of the best experiences of a young person’s life.  And we know that you want to be able to enjoy your own time while they’re experiencing all it has to offer – without worrying that you’re going to get a call to come pick them up.

While many director and leadership teams are taking Mental Health First Aid, developing mental wellness programs & supports, and bringing on more mental health professionals, we know if they’re prepared before they get there, they’ll have a better experience overall.

That’s why we’re hosting this workshop exclusive for parents who are sending their kids to OCA camps this summer.

Angele has been working in youth mental health for 15 years – and has helped thousands of kids through her workshops and programs.  And she’s created a workshop for you to help prepare your kid for camp this summer.

Angele will be joined by Ashley, now 23, who will share her own story of living with anxiety since the age of 8.  She’ll offer insight into how it felt, its impact on her life, what the adults around her got right (and what they could have done differently), and how she learned to manage it.

There will be plenty of time for Q&A with them both at the end.

So join us on June 8th and come away knowing that you’ve given them concrete tools to head to camp ready and excited to have the time of their life.

So, Who Are Angele and Ashley?

Angele has worked in youth mental health for more than 15 years – educating parents and young people on various topics related to mental health.

She regularly runs workshops in schools & after-school programs with kids ages 6 to 18, helping them to learn about stress management, suicide prevention, and positive mental health.

Over the past two years, Angele has seen an increased demand for education & awareness sessions from parents, educators, and other community groups.  They’re reaching out for help to support young people’s mental health – especially in the areas of anxiety and depression.

Angele has worked with thousands of kids through her workshops and has now put her insight into a workshop for you – so you can feel confident and comfortable sending your kid to summer camp.

A first-person perspective …

Meet Ashley, a young 23 year old who lives with several mental illnesses, and who is finally starting to navigate her way through this world.  Growing up she seemed to be living a very normal life until – like a volcano – her mental health exploded from bottling all of her emotions.

Through countless hospital admissions, doctor appointments, and countless therapies she is finally figuring out how to balance her daily life.  Wanting to help herself get better instead of setting herself back.  Wanting to be a wake up call and to convey the message that it’s okay to not be perfect in fact nobody truly is.  By sharing her story, she wants to inspire youth and adults to realize that they have the power to take control.

Ashley has started to set herself small realistic goals and larger dreams leading into a hopeful future.  Now with 6 diagnoses, 4 categorized traits, the help of 8 psychiatrists and 5 psychologists, and over 18 other mental health field supports, as well as 4 hospital admissions, trying over 24 different medications and many different combinations as well as remembering to use her coping strategies when in crisis, she is finally figuring out her mental health!

Every day is a battle but she continues to fight.  After meeting Ashley and getting her insight into what your kids may be feeling, you’ll leave knowing that you’re not alone and with the confidence to support them better.

This workshop will give you the strategies and confidence
to make sure they’re prepared for an amazing summer.
If you’re worried about how your kid will adjust to camp this year – don’t miss it!
