Session Details
Create workplaces where everyone can belong.
Neurodivergence is an umbrella term that includes those on the Autism Spectrum, those with ADHD, and also individuals with OCD, PTSD, brain injury, giftedness, executive functioning disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Tourette's syndrome, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, and more. Far from being a minority of the population, Neurodivergent individuals make up 18-26% of the population.
With 1 in 50 people being diagnosed as neurodivergent and even more going undiagnosed and silently struggling, it is clear that we need to pay more attention to how companies and cultures make space for neurodivergence. Neurodivergent individuals bring key skills, perspectives, and talents. However, neurodivergent individuals are also more likely to experience Mental Health issues, burnout, and difficulty with interpersonal relationships at work. They are also more likely to experience trauma as a result of workplace experiences that do not understand them and therefore cannot adequately support their needs.
It's true that neurodivergent individuals process work differently. Some neurodivergent conditions classify as disabilities. However, the strategies that create safe and supportive workplaces for neurodivergent individuals to thrive, are critical strategies that help every employee become happier, healthier, more productive and more engaged at work.
PLEASE NOTE: Completion Certificates for 2 hours of professional development will be provided upon request. Please see FAQ below for additional information!

neurodiversity & trauma-informed leadership expert
Kim Van Ryn
Kim (she/her) started her career as a Child and Youth Worker in foster and adoptive care, developing skills and gaining education in trauma and attachment theory. After a short break from the human services field, she returned to work in day services with adults with neurodiversities and found her true calling. Over the past years of professional development Kim has attained her BA in Human Services with honours, and her Trauma-Informed Care and Counselling certificate. She is continuously mentored to communicate more deeply with non-speaking people. Kim now offers therapeutic support to people with neurodiversities who have experienced emotional trauma.
With her team, Kim opened the doors to Branching Out Support Services in 2019, which supports people across the age span who live with developmental disabilities and neurodiversities.
What People Are Saying About Kim's Work
❝
We had the pleasure of working with The Expert Talk for several workshops. Feedback was positive about the content, information, and Kim's real-life experience. In addition to being supportive, easy to talk to, and always open to feedback and suggestions, we felt safe in her hands at every interaction. If an opportunity arose, we wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again in the future.
